j-ERA

j-ERA is an East Coast-raised, West Coast-rooted MC whose name doubles as a mission statement. Born and raised in the tri-state corridor between Philadelphia and New York City, Jer headed west alone at 21, finding his footing in the Bay Area before eventually settling in Sacramento. That journey placed him between two coasts once treated as rivals, allowing him to fuse the grit and lyricism of the East with the rhythm and creative freedom of the West.

Long before discovering his voice as an MC, j-ERA was already an artist. At seven, he was scouted for the boys’ state choir. His artwork appeared in libraries, schools, museums, and other venues beginning in the third grade, while his first lyrical and literary work was published when he was only ten. He later earned a scholarship to an art school, where he continued developing across multiple creative mediums.

That talent grew against a far less forgiving background. Raised with very little as a white kid in a predominantly Black and Puerto Rican neighborhood, Jer developed a genuine love for the cultures surrounding him while facing daily challenges involving identity, acceptance, and survival. Violence and toxicity at home forced him out on his own at sixteen. Despite graduating with honors near the top of his class, he found himself homeless and without family support. What could have broken him instead pushed him toward the community he discovered in street-corner cyphers. There, he earned respect, found his true medium, and crossed the line from lifelong hip-hop fan to MC.

His musical foundation is as broad as his journey. His mother filled their apartment with Motown and soul from Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Whitney Houston, and Toni Braxton. His father brought the force of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and Alice in Chains. Outside, hip-hop completed the picture through artists including The Notorious B.I.G., Big L, Nas, 2Pac, Jay-Z, The LOX, Nate Dogg, Snoop Dogg, DMX, Fabolous, Cam’ron, and Dr. Dre.

Rather than representing one narrow style, j-ERA carries an entire continuum of hip-hop and R&B stretching from the mid-1990s through today. He deliberately changes his approach from track to track, treating versatility as a discipline and refusing to let familiarity become limitation. Regardless of the sound or subject, his lyrics remain rooted in personal experience. His music recognizes that pain may look different for each person, but the need to feel understood is universal. His goal is not simply to awaken the survivor in his listeners, but the warrior capable of facing chaos without surrendering to it.

For j-ERA, Delta Squad is not something an artist merely joins—it is an identity each member embodies. The collective surrounds him with respected underground producers, honest feedback, encouragement, collaboration, and a wide range of influences that keep his creativity moving forward. No one is simply part of Delta Squad; together, they are Delta Squad.

Recent releases include the classic-minded 2000then, the underground-driven The Mixtape ERA, and the seductive R&B energy of NETFLIX & Khillin’, featuring dozens of collaborations with standout underground artists. He is now developing his most ambitious and experimental project yet, If Only Death Could Touch Me. Currently in pre-production and planned for 2028, the album will reveal itself through periodic singles leading toward its release.

Risen in the East, residing in the West, and continuing to move across borders, sounds, and generations, j-ERA does not simply make music influenced by an era. He is building one of his own—the j-ERA.
